Bees in Minecraft are one of the few mobs that work for you. You can set up a Bee colony and they’ll produce resources on their own with minimal input.

There are three gameplay elements that make Bees worth keeping in Minecraft. Honey Bottles are the best in the game for removing Poison. Honeycombs let you wax Copper blocks to stop oxidation and can be crafted into new Beehives to expand your farm. The best place to find Minecraft Bees is a Meadow. Bee Nests there have a 100% spawn rate, so you won’t have to search long. Plains and Sunflower Plains also work, but the spawn rate drops to around 5%.

To move a Bee Nest without losing the Bees inside, you need a Silk Touch tool. Mining it without one destroys the nest and releases the Bees. They’ll swarm you immediately. With Silk Touch, the nest comes off intact and can be placed wherever you need it.

How to Breed Bees in Minecraft

You can breed Bees in Minecraft by holding a Flower and right-clicking an adult Bee to put it in love mode, then do the same to a second adult Bee. They’ll pair up and produce a Baby Bee.

Baby Bees take 20 minutes to reach adulthood. That’s one full Minecraft day. You can speed it up by feeding the Baby Bee more Flowers, with each one cutting 10% off the remaining growth time.

The simplest way to get a Honey farm in Minecraft is with a greenhouse design. Enclose your Bees in a space with glass walls and a roof, with Flowers planted inside. This keeps them close to the hives and stops them from wandering. In Java Edition, Bees also take damage when they touch water, so keeping them enclosed protects against that too.

For automation, you need a Dispenser and a Comparator. Place the Dispenser facing the front of the Beehive and load it with Shears or Glass Bottles. Then connect a Comparator to the hive. The Comparator reads the honey level and outputs a redstone signal from 0 to 5. When it hits 5, the hive is full. That signal triggers the Dispenser, which automatically collects Honeycombs or Honey Bottles for you.

Never strike a Bee or break a hive without a lit Campfire below it in Minecraft. One wrong move will anger the entire colony at once.

In the Java Edition, you can place a Carpet on top of your Campfires. Bees can fly low enough to take damage from open flames. Carpet prevents that while still letting the smoke do its job. 

Keep Flowers placed directly in front of your hive entrance. Bees that have collected pollen will return to the hive faster when a Flower is close by. Shorter trips mean faster honey production.
